LAYERS (COCOON BY SEALY MATTRESS)
There are 2 version of the Cocoon mattress. Therefore, we will give you information of both soft and firm version.
Cocoon by Sealy uses 2″ of memory foam to make up the top layer. The functions of this top layer are providing the initial comfort and reducing pressure. They design the middle layer as a support layer which contains 2″ of transitional poly foam. It also is the transitional layer from the softer memory foam top layer into the denser bottom layer. The bottom layer includes 6″ base foam. It not only acts as a foundational base but also offers a degree of deep compression support.
This top layer is also made from 2″ of memory foam. Moreover, its functions which are comfort provision and pressure relief is similar to the soft Cocoon’s top layer. However, it can create a firmer feel than the soft version thanks to the thinner profile. The bottom layer of the firm Cocoon is 8″ of base foam. Cocoon by Sealy builds this foundational base for the mattress to provide more support for the sleeper.
Cocoon by Sealy has designed two different covers for you to choose. The first option is the Cocoon classic, which goes with their basic cover. The second choice is the Cocoon Chill, which includes a phase changing cover. The classic Coccon cover contains a combination of polyester and cotton. It is designed in a fairly simple way. However, Cocoon by Sealy still makes sure that their cover is soft, stretchy, and breathable.
In order to create a cool feel for sleepers, Cocoon by Sealy has added a phase change material into their Cocoon Chill cover. The phase change material is a different point between the two cover. It can absorb and store body heat. Besides, this special material offers both cool and warm sleeping surface which depends on sleeper’s temperature. When you lie on this mattress, the cover is cooler for the first 15-30 minutes of sleeping and then begins to reach equilibrium with your body. Other areas of the mattress will be cooler until you lie on them as because the phase change cover can regulate the temperature for the mattress.
Aesthetically, these two covers are virtually identical. As you can see, both covers have the white and blue color scheme with a diamond pattern running across the top piece of fabric. However, there is still a difference between them. It’s the small “Chill” tag adorned to the foot of the Cocoon Chill mattress.
FIRMNESS, FEEL, & SUPPORT
Cocoon by Sealy mattress owns two different firmness levels. The soft mattress comes in at a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm. The firm mattress is at an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
The two mattresses have done a good job at reducing pressure. Sleeper will feel a well balance on both the soft and firm version. They won’t incur any pains or discomfort when lying on any position. With the soft mattress, you’re able to enjoy an easier transition into the more supportive and firmer base foam. However, sleepers may feel pressure points due to the firm mattress with no transition foam.
In term of bounce and motion transfer, we can see that the overall bounce was quite minimal. Besides, the motion transfer is virtually zero because of the lower level of bounce.
With respect to cooling the Cocoon does a pretty good job. The Cocoon Chill cover may be the main factor in this field. That’s why it’s worth spending the extra $150 to get the cooler cover from Cocoon by Sealy.
We have made a sinkage test on Cocoon by Sealy mattress to show you how the mattress will perform under various conditions, pressures, and positions.
